Artist Philosophy
My work is based on both human and animal forms, and while I've ranged from traditional to abstract, I seem to have reached an area in between those. Regardless of the subject or the manner in which I describe it, my primary focus is on the overall composition of the piece. I want my imagination to have the freedom to rearrange, to extend, shorten, exaggerate or eliminate; in order to achieve the balance or counterbalance I feel is needed. Being strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style, with its sweeping sensuous line and organic quality; I try to impart some of that into my work. Toward that goal, I find the use of negative space helpful in allowing a more linear, as opposed to bulky, composition. Ultimately, I don't try to copy nature in all it's detail, but rather draw from it only that which I need to achieve my design.
